Women’s Tennis Defeats Brown, Advances to ECAC Semifinals

Columbia faces Harvard Saturday in the next round of the ECAC Championship

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Columbia women's tennis team cruised past Brown, 4-0, in the first match of the ECAC Championships on Friday afternoon to setup a match against Harvard on Saturday in the ECAC Semifinals.
 
The Lions captured wins in the doubles one and two spots to open the match with a 1-0 advantage as a team. Malak El Allami and Amber Yin teamed up for a 6-1 win over Dani Ben-Abraham and Bella Hu in the No. 2 position for the first doubles win of the match. Sophia Strugnell and Gayathri Krishnan clinced the doubles point for Columbia with a 6-3 victory against Lindsey Hofflander and Addie Ahlstrom in the top doubles match.
 
Columbia proceeded to post three straight singles victories to finish off the 4-0 win to advance to the ECAC semifinals Saturday. El Allami, Krishnan and Emily Baek earned singles wins to help the Lions advance.
 
Krishnan earned the first singles win of the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Hofflander in the No. 2 singles. El Allami turned in a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Ahlstrom in the top singles. Baek closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 6 spot over Hu.
