Women’s Tennis Falls to Cal Poly on the Road

Lions drop to 8-6 on the year

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The 69th-ranked Columbia women's tennis team battled, but came up short to No. 65 Cal Poly, 4-3 on the road on Friday.

The Mustangs took the early advantage by securing the doubles point. Cal Poly's duo of Natalie Lynch/Jessica MacCallum defeated Columbia's duo of Emily Baek/Sophia Wang 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. Columbia evened things up when Malak El Allami/Fatima Keita defeated Cal Poly's Peyton Dunkle/Amy Leather 6-2.

The Mustangs secured the point when Kennedy Buntrock/Romane Mosse held on for a 6-4 victory over the Lions' duo of Gayathri Krishnan/Sophia Strugnell.

In the singles matches, Cal Poly took a 2-0 lead early when Dunkle defeated Krishnan 6-4-6-4 in the No. 2 spot. Columbia got its first point when Baek defeated Lynch in straight sets, at the No. 6 spot.

The Lions tied the match at 2-2 when Sophia Wang defeated Alexandra Ozerets 6-3, 6-4. El Allami made it 3-3 when she defeated Buntrock 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the one spot. Unfortunately, the Mustangs held on for the win when MacCallum defeated Winta Tewolde 7-5, 6-2, 4-6 in the No. 5 spot.
