No. 71 Columbia Women’s Tennis Sweeps Cornell on the Road

Lions open conference play with convincing win over Big Red

ITHACA, N.Y. - The 71st-ranked Columbia women's tennis team opened conference play with a convincing 4-0 win over host Cornell Saturday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center.

The Lions (10-6, 1-0 Ivy) have now won two in a row after back-to-back defeats earlier this month. On the road, they are now 2-2. Cornell (9-4, 0-1 Ivy) lost for just the first time at home this season and saw its three-match winning streak snapped.

Columbia claimed the doubles point thanks to a pair of 6-1 victories. Emily Baek and Sophia Wang got the Lions going with a 6-1 win over Alexandra Savu/Andrea Martinez De Los Rios. Malak Ell Allami and Fatima Keita secured the doubles point with a win over Michelle Ryndin/Emma Baker.

In the singles matches, the Lions picked up wins in the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 spot. El Allami once again got the better of Ryndin, defeating her 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Gayathri Krishnan defeated Victoria Zhao 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Winta Tewolde defeated Cornell's Jenny Wong, 6-4, 6-4, to claim the match.
