Hayley Hayden Named Assistant Field Hockey Coach

NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey head coach Niki Miller has announced the hiring of Hayley Hayden as an assistant coach.

Hayden arrives to Columbia after many years of coaching at the club level. She is a 2024 University of Pennsylvania graduate.

"We are excited to have Hayley join our program," Miller said. "Her experience as a student-athlete in the Ivy League will significantly benefit our players on and off the pitch. Hayley has a wide range of expertise in field hockey, specializing in goalkeeping. She's been a player, coach, and has run her own business. We look forward to her contributions at Columbia."

Hayden was a four-year member of the Penn Field Hockey team, where she was an NFHCA National Academic Squad member. She went on to play her final year of eligibility at Boston College, where the team advanced to the ACC Championship game and the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2024.

"Ivy League field hockey holds such a special place in my heart," Hayden said. "After conversations with Niki and Jack, I really resonate with the ideals of the program. I truly feel that they are building something special here, and I count myself lucky to be a part of it. Meeting the team and seeing how both Niki and Jack have lit a fire under them to play with love and pride at the highest level is infectious. It makes it very easy to be all in on the Lion community."

Hayden is a Long Island native and graduate of Northport High School, where she was named All-State and Newsday First-Team All-Long Island. She has coached at Lasting Legacy and Dynasty Field Hockey Clubs, where she has most recently held the role of Director of Goalkeeping Development. Hayden ran her own coaching business, Island Goalkeeping, and has helped many players through the recruiting process.

Hayden has also spent her summers working with Ultimate Defender Goalkeeper Academy, where she delivered elite-level skill instruction, gave mental health and recruiting talks, and was able to receive mentorship from NCAA goalkeeper coaches.

Hayden was selected for the 2022 Senior Nexus Championship, where she was then chosen for advancement to the U21 National Team Selection Camp in Chula Vista, Calif. In her final semester at Penn, she also helped coach goalkeepers in the Nexus pipeline in Region 4.

Hayden graduated from Penn in 2024 with a major in psychology and a minor in architecture. She will pursue her master's degree at Columbia's School of Social Work starting this fall.
