Last Time Out
Griffin Palfrey went off for a four-hit performance, which included two home runs and eight RBI in Tuesday's 18-7 home win over Fairfield. He also took over on the mound for the ninth inning and struck out three batters to close out the game.
The Lions broke it open during a seven-run sixth inning in which Palfrey hit his second three-run homer right after Sam Miller hit a two-run single. Evan Kleinhans and Justin Bowman each recorded scoreless outings out of the Columbia bullpen. The Lions pitching staff recorded 10 strikeouts and only walked three.
A Tradition of Excellence
Since 2012, Columbia leads the Ivy League with 160 conference wins, 11 wins over ranked opponents, six NCAA Tournament wins, and six Ivy League Championships. In that span, the Lions have also produced 12 Major League Baseball Draft selections and have had 18 players in MLB organizations.
Offensive Explosion
Once again, Columbia's offense has been one of the top in the Ivy League. The Lions lead the conference in runs per game (8.3), home runs (42) and hits (298). Individually, Sam Miller has 46 hits to lead all Ivy Leaguers, while his and Anton Lazits' eight dingers are tops in the conference. Miller, Palfrey, and Lazits rank in the top three among Ivy League hitters in RBIs as well.
Boretti Reaches Milestone
Head coach Brett Boretti collected his 500th career win in game one at Princeton on March 29. Last season, the four-time Ivy League Coach of the Year became Columbia baseball's all-time wins leader. Boretti has the sixth-most wins among Ivy League baseball head coaches all-time.
