Lions Sweep Podium at USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals

Seven Lions named to All-East Team

HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Columbia archery team won every medal it competed for over the weekend at the 2025 USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals. The East Region event was held Saturday and Sunday at UREC Turf Field on the campus of James Madison University.

In the Recurve College Women's division, all four spots in the semifinals were represented by Columbia. They consisted of top-seeded senior Judith Gottlieb, who scored a 628 in Saturday's qualifying, second-seeded sophomore Eunice Choi, third-seeded junior Lillian Han and fourth-seeded sophomore Michelle Ahn. Han bested Choi while Ahn bested Gottlieb in the semifinals to set up the all-Columbia final.

In the gold-medal match, Han won the first, third and fourth ends to defeat the sophomore Ahn, 6-2. Sophomore. Choi defeated Gottlieb in the bronze-medal match, 7-1.

It was also an all-Columbia final in the Compound College Women's division between juniors Sydney Sullenberger and Giselle DeSousa. Sullenberger (676) bested DeSousa by three points in Saturday's qualifying to earn the No. 1 seed. She led by two points heading to the fifth end of the gold-medal match but DeSousa won the last end, 29-27, to send the bout to a one-arrow shoot-off. DeSousa scored a perfect 10, beating out Sullenberger's nine, for the gold.

"I'm so incredibly proud of everyone," Columbia head coach Derek Davis said.  "The wind was a little tricky this year, so I was really impressed with the scores considering that. I was really happy with Lillian and Michelle to shoot well and break out like they did. It's not surprising to me – I knew they had it in them.

"The gold-medal match between Sydney and Giselle is the best a coach can wish for. Giselle was leading, Sydney caught up, Giselle tied her… They went to a shoot-off and Giselle did what Giselle does in shoot-offs.

Columbia also won gold in all team events. Gottlieb, Choi and Han won it in recurve, while Sullenberger and DeSousa won uncontested in compound. The Lions were also represented in the mixed-team round. Sullenberger won the gold, pairing with Columbia club archer Cooper Keane to capture the title.

In addition to their medals, seven Columbia archers were named to the 2025 All-East Team. The team is determined by combining individual scores from USA Archery Indoor National and Collegiate Target Regionals. Eunice Choi, Judith Gottlieb, Lillian Han, Michelle Ahn and Mia Shin made up all five spots on the All-East Team in Recurve Women. Sydney Sullenberger and Giselle DeSousa were the two All-East Team members in Compound Women.

Columbia will now prepare for Collegiate Target Nationals, which take place May 15-18 in East Lansing, Michigan.
