Tom Yu Earns a Top-15 Finish at The Doc Gimmler

Lions tie for eighth in rain-shortened 2026-27 season opener
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Columbia first-year Tom Yu turned in a two-round score of 1-over-par 141 to lead the Columbia men's golf team at The Doc Gimmler. The annual event was contested over the weekend at the Red Course at Bethpage State Park.
Originally slated for three rounds, Sunday's final round was canceled due to heavy rains and standing water on the course. Results from Saturday's first two rounds were marked as final.
Yu was solid in his collegiate debut, posting an opening-round 2-over-par 72 followed by a 1-under-par 69. He parred 29 of 36 holes through Saturday's first two rounds. His 69 consisted of three birdies and two bogeys. Yu tied for 15th on the 82-player individual leaderboard.
The Lions finished tied for eighth in the 14-team field at 15-over par, beating out URI (+16), Bryant (+17), Providence (+18), UConn (+19) and Hofstra (+28). Yale won the event at 13-under par.
Other notable performances included sophomore Neil Kulkarni, who shot an even-par 70 to lead the team across Saturday's opening 18 holes. He finished just outside the top 25, tying for 26th at 3-over for the tournament. Junior Ryan Keyes (+4) and first-year Spencer Carter (+4) tied for 33rd.
The Lions compete again in two weeks, September 26-27, at the Macdonald Cup. The event, hosted by Yale, takes place at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Connecticut.
