The Lions held a 1-0 lead midway through the third quarter

NEW YORK — Quinnipiac's Rozemarijn van Keulen scored twice, including the game-winning goal with 3:59 remaining, as the Bobcats defeated Columbia field hockey at Baker Athletic Complex, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, the Lions (3-3, 0-1) broke through just 52 seconds into the third quarter. Jacinta Solari Etcheberry converted a deflection on a penalty-corner opportunity, with Delfina Gonzalez Lobo providing the assist. The goal was Solari Etcheberry's team-leading sixth of the season.

Quinnipiac (4-3, 1-0) answered with 5:03 left in the third period when van Keulen scored off an assist from Martina Calveira to even the contest at 1-1. Van Keulen would strike again with 4:59 remaining in regulation, scoring off an assist from Lauren Keyte to give the Bobcats their first lead of the afternoon.

Columbia continued to generate opportunities throughout the afternoon, finishing with a 14-3 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in penalty corners. The Lions put eight shots on goal, while Quinnipiac recorded two.

The Lions pressed for an equalizer in the final minutes, earning four penalty corners in the fourth quarter, but Quinnipiac goalkeeper Meike van Schoot made seven saves on the afternoon to preserve the victory.

Columbia travels to Providence, Rhode Island, for a road matchup at Brown next Frday, September 25, at 4 p.m.
