Lizzie Adams’ two goals in the third quarter were the difference
DAVIS, Calif. — Lizzie Adams scored two third-quarter goals and Columbia field hockey held off UC Davis in the final seconds for a 2-1 victory in Friday's season opener at the Aggie Field Hockey Facility.
Columbia (1-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third quarter after a pair of goals from Adams coming out of the break. With 8:41 remaining in the period, Mckenzie Bloom fed a pass across the goal line centered for Adams, who one-timed a shot into the back of the cage.
Adams scored her second goal of the match just two minutes later on a deflection that was initiated from a Delfina Gonzalez Lobo shot.
UC Davis (1-2) cut the lead in half and got on the board with 2:38 to play in the fourth. Katie Kim scored on the Aggies' first shot on goal of the match. A final penalty corner opportunity from UC Davis with 1:52 left was turned away as the Columbia backline locked it down in the final two minutes and closed out the victory.
