Jefferson Baum '08CC began his tenure as an Assistant Coach for the Columbia men's soccer program prior to the 2018 season.
"I've had the opportunity to work with Jeff over the course of the last three years in various capacities," said Columbia head coach
Kevin Anderson. "When the opportunity on our staff presented itself, Jeff was without question the right addition to complement our team and staff."
Prior to joining the Lions, Baum was an Assistant Coach for the NYU Men's Soccer team from 2014 to 2016, helping the Violets earn a trip to the ECAC semifinals during his first season in 2014.
He is also the founder and director of Diablos F.C. in Kansas City, Mo—an inner-city soccer program with a college-preparatory focus. From 2008-14, Baum coached teams ranging from U11 to U19. His teams were consistently ranked among the best in Missouri, and outperformed the district ACT average by six points, earning over $300,000 in scholarships during his tenure.
Baum holds coaching licenses from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and United Soccer Coaches.
Baum is a 2008 graduate of Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and dual concentrations in history and creative writing. During his time at Columbia, Baum was a four-year varsity Fencing Team member, winning three Ivy League Championships. He also competed for the United States Fencing Team, earning a Pan-American Silver Medal in 2004 and finishing ninth in the Gödöllo, Hungary World Cup in 2003.
