Marco Matteucci

Marco Matteucci joined the Columbia coaching staff in the summer of 2007 as assistant women’s tennis coach.
Prior to Columbia, he had served as assistant coach for both the women and men’s teams at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. In addition to organizing team and individual practices, and recruiting, Matteucci promoted tennis to the community through clinics and speaking engagements at tennis facilities. He also was involved in planning and running many fundraising events.
He helped lead the West Florida women’s team to the championship of the Gulf South Conference in 2007. The Argonauts went on to finish second at the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Matteucci played singles and doubles for West Florida. His Argonauts team was runner-up in the Gulf South Conference and reached the national Division II semifinals. They won the 2004 and 2005 NCAA Division II national championships.
A native of Queens, New York, Matteucci was raised both there and in Italy. He was a scholastic All-American at Holy Cross in Flushing, Queens, with more than 60 wins and just one loss, in the New York City championship his senior season. He was an all-city and all-state selection.
He trained at the USTA National Tennis Center in New York, and earned sectional ranking in both Boys 16’s and 18’s. He also trained at the Fabrizio Fanucci tennis academy in Florence, Italy. He played in numerous national, futures, satellite and interclub tournaments throughout Italy and Europe. He was ranked 2.4 by the Italian tennis federation, in the top 100, approximately, in Italy.
He originally enrolled at Florida Atlantic University, later transferring to West Florida. He earned his bachelor’s degree in health leisure & exercise science in 2007. Following graduation, he returned to Queens, working as a tennis instructor and fitness coordinator at the New York Tennis Academy and as an instructor at Town Tennis Club in Manhattan.
Matteucci lives in Kew Gardens, N.Y.
