Josh Martin used hard work and dedication to make his mark in the National Football League (NFL) as a standout at Columbia and beyond.
A three-time All-Ivy League selection from 2010-12, Martin made 140 career tackles (85 solo), registered 25 tackles for loss for 133 yards, ranked third in school history in sacks with 18.0, ranks first in school history in quarterback hurries, and recovered five fumbles.
In 2010, he led the Ivy League in fumble recoveries with three and tied for the team lead with four sacks on his way to second-team all-conference honors. Martin nearly doubled his production as a sophomore, registering 63 tackles and seven sacks to pick up All-Ivy League honors for the second straight year.
Martin served as team captain as a senior in 2012 and was a force to be reckoned with. As the focal point of the Lions’ defense, he still led the Lions in sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (11.5) to earn a spot on the All-Ivy League first team.
After his successful stint with the Lions, Martin went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft but was soon signed by the Kansas City Chiefs. His NFL career began as a rookie free agent, but his dedication and hard work allowed him to climb the ranks. Martin played for several NFL teams throughout his career, including the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints. He primarily played as an outside linebacker and special teams contributor, consistently showcasing his adaptability and athleticism.
Martin has been recognized off the field for his philanthropic efforts and commitment to community engagement. He’s been involved in various charitable activities and has made it his mission to give back, especially in education and children’s welfare.
