
Penn Hands Volleyball 3-0 Loss in Season Finale

NEW YORK -- In front of a spirited home crowd in their season finale, the Lions could not overcome a determined Penn attack, dropping a 3-0 decision (30-20, 30-20, 30-24) to the Quakers.
Columbia was felled by 15 attack errors in game one, while Penn found their hitting stride in the second game, going for a .282 percentage by way of 17 kills.
The Lions fought back in the third game, getting as close as 23-22 on a four-point run. However, Penn closed out the game on a 7-2 run and captured the match in three consecutive games.
Laura Black posted a match-high 17 kills for Penn, while Amalia Viti had 11 to lead Columbia. Ellie Thomas and Cassie Ligh had 12 digs apiece for the Lions and Ashley Kim chipped in with 11.
The match was the final one for senior Nikki Learned in her Columbia career. The senior captain finished with five kills and five blocks.
Columbia finishes the 2006 season with a 7-17 record and a 1-13 mark in the Ivy League.
