PRINCETON, N.J. - After scoring only 13 points in the first half, the Lions could not recover from a 20-point first half deficit, losing to Princeton, 59-45. Junior guard
Megan Griffith led the Columbia with 13 points.
Scoring was sparse in the first half as the Tigers started the game with an 8-2 lead with the Lions' basket coming from Griffith. Columbia did not score another basket for over seven minutes, when sophomore forward Brittney Carfora hit a long three pointer. In that time, Princeton increased its lead to 12-5. The Lions had another scoring drought, this one over four minutes, not scoring again until 5:56 left in the half. At that point, the Tigers had added to their lead, 20-6.
The Lions cut the lead to 10 points (23-13) on a three-pointer from first-year guard Katrina Cragg with 3:34 left in the half, but would not score again as Princeton took a 33-13 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Tigers kept a comfortable lead over Columbia, going up by as many as 24 points. Two three pointers from Cragg and a layup from first-year forward Maureen Marzano helped the Lions cut the lead to 14 points in the last minute of the game.
Griffith led the Lions with 13 points and Cragg finished the game with 10 points in 11 minutes of play. For Princeton, Becky Brown had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Casey Lockwood had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
