NEW YORK - School record-setters Kate Lombard and Marisa Marcellino have been selected second team All-Ivy League by a vote of the conference's head coaches, the league office announced.
Lombard, a junior midfielder and team captain, broke the Columbia record for points in a season with 48 this spring. She tied the school single-season goals record of 40 set by Carrie Anderer `06CC last year and ranked second in the league in goals per game with 2.50. Also a relentless defensive performer, Lombard was third in the conference in caused turnovers with 1.69 per game.
Marcellino demolished her own school record for assists in a season. After setting the Columbia single-season best of 18 in 2005, she posted 25 this season to rank second in the league and shatter the school career assist record midway through her sophomore season. The midfielder also had 22 goals this season and tied Lombard for second-best on the team with 38 ground balls.
Marcellino is sixth in the league in points per game this season with 2.94 points per game; Lombard is fifth with 3.00. As of the date of the All-Ivy League announcement, May 16, two league teams were still competing in the NCAA Tournament.
Lombard and Marcellino are the fifth and sixth players in the program's history to earn All-League. This marks the second time that Columbia has had two players earn second team or better in the same season.
