? ? ? The Atlantic Coast Conference power is well-known for its ultra-fast courts, which may have thrown the Lions off a bit. Columbia won one of the three doubles matches, but just one of six in singles.
?? ? “It's very difficult to play on BC's courts,” assistant coach Manisha Patel noted. “They were very slick, almost like glass.”
? ? ? ? That helped the Eagles to win two of the three doubles matches, to gain the doubles point. Sydney Murray and Lauren Shearer won the other doubles match for Columbia, by an 8-5 score.
??? ? ? ? “We played very competitively in doubles,” Patel said. “We came out of them feeling very positive about our play.”
?? ? ? ? Singles was a different story, though. Lana Krasnopolsky beat senior Milena Kachar at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5, and the Eagles were on a roll. They won the next four singles to sew up the match.
?? ? ? ? Angela Hendry forced BC's No. 2 player, Dasha Cherkasov, to three sets, finally losing, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). Nina Suda, Murray, and Shearer all lost in straight sets, though. First-year Carling Donovan averted a shutout when she defeated Gia Nafarrete at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-1.
?? ? ? ? “We have to put this one behind us,” Patel said, “and go for Boston U. tomorrow.” The match with the Terriers begins at 10 a.m.
