QUICK HITS
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
Columbia controls its own destiny after topping Yale, 4-0, on the road last Saturday and received some help from Princeton beating Cornell. Heading into the final regular season weekend, the Lions and Tigers are both 5-1 in Ivy League play to to lead the conference standings, but Columbia holds the tiebreaker for automatic NCAA Championship bid due to its win in the head-to-head matchup on Oct. 3.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard snapped a three-game slide with a 3-1 victory at Dartmouth last weekend. The Crimson potted three goals after halftime. Noel Painter chipped in on all three scores, netting a goal and two assists.
Harvard boasts a stingy defense, allowing just 1.33 goals per game, tops in the Ivy League.
A LOOK BACK...
The Crimson spoiled Senior Day for Columbia last season, coming up with a 2-1 overtime win last November.
Elizabeth Jacobson scored with just under eight minutes to go to tie things up in the second half and then provided the game-winner two minutes into overtime to seal the come-from-behind victory.
Lauren Skudalski provided the Lions' lone goal and added a pair of defensive saves. Kimberly Pianucci was strong in net, making eight stops.
A WIN VS. HARVARD...
• Clinch Columbia's first Ivy League Championship and NCAA Championship bid.
• Would tie the program record for most wins in a season, tying the benchmark established in 2000 (13-6).
• Give the Lions six Ivy League wins, the most in program history.
• Extend Columbia's win-streak to seven games, which would be the longest in school history.
LIONS GO STREAKING
Columbia's current six-game winning streak is tied for the longest in program history. The Lions previously won six in a row in September of 2012.
TO THE POINT
Christina Freibott set another program mark in the Lions' win at Yale on Nov. 1. With her five point performance, she set a new single-season record with 41 points, breaking the old mark of 36 points, previously set by Nikki Campbell in 2000. Her 2.56 points per game also has her ranked first in the Ivy League and fifth in the NCAA.
COMEBACK KIDS
During its current winning streak, Columbia has had to come from behind four times. The Lions trailed by one in their contests against Towson, Penn (twice) and Delaware and erased a two-goal deficit against UMass. Columbia is 5-4 on the year when its opponent scores first.
PIANUCCI STEPS UP
Junior goalkeeper Kimberly Pianucci is playing her best at the perfect time. Pianucci recorded her second shutout of the season at Yale on Nov. 1 after being named Ivy League Co-Player of the Week and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28. She made a season-high nine saves in Columbia's 3-1 win over Dartmouth Oct. 26. Her strong performances of late have moved her to first in the Ivy League in save percentage (.745).
FREIBOTT'S STREAK
Junior Christina Freibott is riding a 10-game point scoring streak and has only been held off the scoresheet twice this season (UConn and Providence). She was named Ivy League Player of the Week twice in October and was featured in Oct. 20's Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd.
GOING FOR THE GOALS
Columbia comes into the weekend as the top scoring team in the Ivy League, averaging 3.12 goals per game, also good for 11th in the NCAA. The Lions have scored 50 goals this season and are two away from tying the team single-season record of 52, set in 200.
DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE?
Freibott's 21 assists lead the Ivy League and her 1.31 average per game put her first in the nation.
Freibott has tied the school's single-game record with three dimes on three occasions this season and four times in her career. She is four away from the single-season Ivy League record of 25, currently held by Princeton's Kirsty Hale.
