GAME NOTES

COLUMBIA'S STATUS
Columbia is coming off a weekend split, topping Brown, 4-0, in its Ivy League debut before dropping an 8-0 decision at Providence the next day.

Zoe Blake potted a pair of goals against the Bears, moving her season total to five, which has more than doubled her career total. Christina Freibott also recorded three assists for the second time this season to tie the Lions' single game record.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell comes into the weekend as the Ivy League's top scoring and defensive team and are winning by an average of three goals per game.

Last weekend, goals were tougher to come by for the Big Red, but the defense remained strong in a 1-0 win over Penn and a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross.

The two wins improved Cornell's win-streak to four games.

SCOUTING THE HOYAS
Georgetown has alternated wins and losses in each of its first seven games and split a pair of contests with Longwood (1-0 OT win) and Lehigh (4-2 loss) at home last weekend.

Sara Butterfield came up with the lone score three minutes into overtime to give the Hoyas the win over the Lancers on Saturday. Against the Mountain Hawks,  the game was tied at the half, but Georgetown surrendered three second half goals.

A LOOK BACK...
Katie Ruesterholz scored twice, but Columbia fell to Cornell, 3-2, in Ithaca last season. Despite falling behind early, the Big Red netted three unanswered goals and held off a late rally to hang on for the win. Ruesterholz scored with just under two minutes to go and had one final opportunity but her shot with 25 seconds left was saved.

LIONS IN IVY LEAGUE OPENERSColumbia won its Ivy League debut for the eighth straight season after its 4-0 clean sheet at Brown on Sep. 20. Overall, the Lions are 8-11 in conference openers. The shutout was the first to kick off Ivy League play since 2009 when htey blanked Brown, 2-0.

ZOE'S PLACE
Midfielder Zoe Blake continued her stellar senior season with two goals in Columbia's win over Brown on Sep. 20. It was her second two-goal game in the span of a week and her five goals this sesaon has more than doubled her career total of four coming into 2014.

SHARING IS CARING
Junior Christina Freibott registered three assists for the second time this season, and third time in her career at Brown on Sep. 20. Her eight asissts rank second in the nation and she is on pace to shatter the Lions' single-season mark of 11 set by Christine Buszczak '09 in 2008.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Not only is Freibott threatening the single-season assist mark, she is making a move on the career list as well. With 19 assists in just two-plus seasons she sits in third place, trailing Dana Zullo's '03 record of 21. Katie Ruesterholz is already seventh on the all-time goal charts with 13 tallies and is six away from cracking the top-five.

PIANUCCI STEPS UP
Junior goalkeeper Kimberly Pianucci stood on her proverbial head last weekend in a pair of wins for the Lions. Against Villanova, she made seven saves and was outstanding, making eight sprawling saves, against Fairfield in another Columbia triumph. Pianucci has made the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll the first two weeks of the 2014 season.
