PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Kevin Roy tossed his second consecutive complete-game shutout in the Columbia baseball team's 4-0 win at Princeton on Sunday. Roy allowed just three hits and struck out seven batters to improve to 3-2 on the year.
The junior right-hander has a streak of 15.2 scoreless innings, dating back to the end of his start against USC Upstate on March 20.
The Lions (18-11, 9-2) had just six hits on the day, but found ways to manufacture runs with productive outs. Joey Falcone was the only Columbia player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
Falcone doubled to lead off the fifth and stole second after a walk was issued to Gus Craig. With runners on the corners, Randell Kanemaru provided a productive out on a sac fly to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage.
Columbia added to the lead in the seventh, using a Falcone single and Craig double to put runners on second and third. Shane Adams pinch ran and scored after a ground out and another sacrifice fly made it 3-0. Nick Maguire put the finishing touches on with a solo shot, his fifth of the season to tie Falcone for the team lead.
From there, Roy did the rest. A strikeout and a game-ending double play sealed the deal for the Lions.
