NEW YORK - Columbia starter Adam Cline went six innings, and Ty Wiest pitched three innings of shutout ball to give Columbia a 1-0 win in game two of the doubleheader.
Cline and Penn starter Mike Reitcheck each pitched out of nearly every jam they found themselves in. Each Pitcher gave up nine hits, but Cline surrendered no runs, while Reitcheck gave up just the one on an RBI single by Joey Falcone in the bottom of the fifth.
Cline struck out six and walked one in his six innings, while Reitcheck fanned five with three walks in eight innings.
Both teams left plenty of runs on the bases with each team leaving nine runners stranded throughout the nine innings.
The turning point in the game came in the top of the fifth inning, when Penn had the bases loaded with one out. Cline got Jeff McGarry to hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Riding the momentum of a great defensive play, Jordan Serena hit a two-out single through the left side and then stole second. With Robb Paller on first after a walk, and Serena on second, Falcone lined a single to the left center gap to score Serena for the game's only run.
Wiest gave up just one hit in his three innings of work.
The Lions remain tied with Penn for the Gehrig Division lead, with both teams boasting 15-3 marks in Ivy League play.
Columbia travels to Penn tomorrow for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
