Baseball Takes On Penn in Gehrig Division Playoff Saturday

NEW YORK - Twenty Ivy League games was not enough to determine a Gehrig Division winner, so the Columbia baseball team and Penn will hit the diamond at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium on Saturday, May 2 for a one-game playoff. The nine-inning contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.

FREE FAN SHUTTLE
Columbia Athletics will provide a free shuttle to the Baker Athletics Complex for fans. Shuttles to the game depart from Amsterdam Avenue between 117 and 118 Streets every 30 minutes beginning at 10 a.m. Shuttles will return to this location immediately following the game.
GAME NOTES
COLUMBIA AND PENN'S STATUS
The Lions fended off elimination with a thrilling extra-inning 8-6 win in the series finale at Penn on Sunday to force the one-game playoff.
Columbia dropped game one of the set, 4-3, in a back-and-forth battle before coming up with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a Joey Falcone RBI single to wrap up regular season play at Robertson Stadium.
As the series shifted to Philadelphia, Jake Cousins fired a one-hitter in game three as the Quakers took the contest, 2-0.
DEJA VU
Just like a season ago, Columbia and Penn entered the final regular season weekend tied for first place in the Gehrig Division standings and split a four-game series.The winner of Saturday's game will advance and host Dartmouth in the Ivy League Championship next weekend.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Columbia is 117-129-3 all-time against Penn, including wins in 11 of the last 15 meetings.
BASH BROTHERS
Joey Falcone and Gus Craig became the first set of teammates to share Ivy League Player of the Week honors after the duo combined for 20 RBI in five games last weekend, including a four-game sweep of Cornell.
DIRTY DOZEN
With their 26-14 record, the Lions are 12 games over the .500 mark for the first time since the 1926 team finished the year 17-5.
ROAD WARRIORS
Columbia's 16-12 road record is the second best in the nation, according to college baseball writer Aaron Sorenson. Dallas Baptist holds a 16-12 mark away from home and Central Michigan boasts an 18-11 record on the road.
