First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium
NEW YORK — Columbia baseball is set to host Fordham on Wednesday from Robertson Field at Satow Stadium. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. The Lions will look to even the two-game set against the Rams.
Wednesday's game between the Lions (6-18, 4-5) and Rams (14-16, 6-6) can be followed via live stats or watched live on ESPN+.
Last time out
Columbia opened the series against Penn in dominant fashion, erasing a nine-run deficit across the final four innings to storm past the Quakers, 21-11. Jack Kail delivered a base-clearing double to plate three runs. Cole Fellows later launched a grand slam to right field to plate Fishel, Kail, and Temesvary to seal the victory.
The Lions finished with a season-high 21 runs on 19 hits in the comeback victory.
However, Columbia dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader, falling 9-5 and 9-8 despite multiple comeback efforts. In game one, the Lions came from behind with a five-run second inning, but Penn responded with a four-run eighth to pull away. In the nightcap, Columbia struck first with three runs in the opening frame and later rallied to tie the game after trailing by four. Penn, however, took the lead for good after a big seventh inning and held off the Lions' late push.
Series History
This marks the 71st meeting between the two programs, with Columbia holding a narrow 36-34 edge in the all-time series. The Lions have won four of the last five matchups against the Rams, but dropped the most recent contest, 9-8, despite a late push fueled by back-to-back home runs from Jack McWilliams and Anthony Temesvary.
For He's a Jolly Good Fellows
Senior Cole Fellows returns after earning the 2025 Blair Bat, awarded to the Ivy League player with the highest batting average in conference play, and has carried that momentum into 2026, hitting .277 on the season.
Fellows delivered a standout performance in the weekend series, launching two home runs, including a grand slam in the opener, marking Columbia's second grand slam of the season. The California native recorded a career-high seven RBI, becoming the first Lion this year to plate six or more runners in a game.
Off the field, Fellows was named a captain of the 2025 Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team, recognizing his leadership and commitment beyond the game.
Toughest One Wins
Jack Kail has been one of the toughest hitters to retire this season, striking out just six times in 89 at-bats, ranking as the hardest player to strike out in the league and among No. 20 nationally. On the season, he is hitting .315 with six doubles and is tied for the team lead with 20 RBI.
Kail recently inked his name into the program's record for the tenth-most career RBI. His next one will put him at the ninth spot, tying Robb Paller (2012, 2014-16) with 111.
