
Volleyball Wraps Up Non-Conference Schedule In Long Island

NEW YORK – With a pair of tournaments already in the books, the Columbia volleyball team (2-4) will round out the non-conference portion of the 2015 schedule this weekend as it heads out to Stony Brook, New York, to compete in the Seawolves Invite presented by Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook on Sept. 18-19.
The Lions will take on the host-Seawolves on Friday night (7 p.m.) before rounding out the weekend on Saturday with matchups against Army (9 a.m.) an Rhode Island (3:30 p.m.).
Columbia is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Columbia Invitational where it was able to come from down 2-0 with three-straight set victories to defeat Northeastern and sweep NJIT before falling to American in the championship match.
The Lions finished the weekend holding opponents to a .128 hitting percentage while posting up 40 total blocks for an average of 2.9 blocks per set.

Scouting Stony Brook
Stony Brook is looking to bounce back after dropping its last five matches, including an 0-4 performance at the competitive LBSU/LMU Mizuno Invitational last weekend.
Leading the offense is Kathy Fletcher who is averaging 3.24 kills per set while McKyla Brooks holds an attacking percentage of .289 with an average of 2.76 kills per set.
As a team, the Seawolves are averaging 1.7 aces per set with a hitting percentage of .163.
Scouting Army
After opening the season 0-2 with a loss to a nationally recognized Kansas team, Army has kicked things into gear, going winning six of their last eight matches.
The Black Knights are led by Carolyn Bockrath who is averaging 3.00 kills per set with an impressive .440 attacking percentage.
As a team, Army is hitting .225 while averaging 1.4 aces per set and 2.2 blocks per set.
Scouting Rhode Island
Rhode Island heads into the weekend on a four-match winning streak after taking a 3-0 sweep at home in the Art Carmichael Invitational last weekend, picking up wins over Canisius, Lehigh and Sacred Heart.
Leading the Rhody offense this year has been senior Franki Darnold who is averaging 3.81 kills per set with an attack percentage of .230 while junior Layne Self holds a .343 attacking percentage after averaging 2.69 kills per set this year.
As a team, the Rams are hitting .258 and average 1.36 aces per set.

With the final regular-season tournament of 2015 in the books, the Lions will kick off Ivy League play with a five-game road trip, starting with a trip to Ithaca, New York, to take on Cornell on Sept. 26 at 2 p.m.
