Track & Field Wins Six Events at Ramapo Indoor Select

NEW YORK - The Columbia track & field teams combined for six first place finishes at the Ramapo College Indoor Select on Saturday, one of two meets on the weekend for the Lions.
Columbia also sent runners to the Penn State National Invitational in State College. On day one, the distance medley team of Robert Napolitano, Corey Hammond, Alek Sauer and Spencer Haik put up a sixth place finish in 9:43.74. The quartet ran against two of the top teams in the country in the event, as the host Nittany Lions edged Stanford in 9:27.20.
The men's team continued to find success at the Ramapo College Indoor Selecte, which was hosted by the NYC Armory. A total of three first place finishes took place, as the Lions went 1-2 in a pair of events.
The 800m run was one event in which Columbia was able to go 1-2, as Charlie Theiss (1:55.67) edged Tyler Otterstedt (1:55.90). Tal Braude and Aidan Goltra were the first two runners to cross the finish line in the 5K, as Braude's 15:12.73 came through just ahead of Goltra's 15:13.14.
Brian Zabilski gave the men another win in the 3K, when he clocked an 8:24.09 for the win. George Miao was not far behind, taking third in 8:27.14.
The men were also highlighted by Dylan Tarpey's runner-up finish in the 1 Mile run in 4:20.13, as he came through just ahead of Dan Schumacher, who took fourth in 4:21.95.
The Columbia women were able to post three first-place finishes at the Armory, and also had five runner-up performances.
Iris Chijioke and Bianca Joseph went 1-2 in the 60m Hurdles, as Chijioke came in with an 8.57 second finish, while Joseph went 9.06 for second.
In the 60m dash, Akua Obeng-Akrofi was able to get out of the blocks for the win in 7.77 seconds during the final, right ahead of Shalon Conley's 7.92 second run for third.
The other win for the women came when Annie Fanta clocked a 5:17.34 in the 1 Mile run.
Georgia Tuttle and Victoria Ingram went 2-3 in the 3K run, with Tuttle finishing in 10:37.76 and Ingram coming through in 10:40.27.
Other highlights included runner up finishes by Sydney Petersen in the 400m dash at 59.21, McKenzie Sup in the 800m run at 2:19.05, and Addy Sonaike in the triple jump at 11.88m.
