MALIBU, Calif. – The Columbia baseball team was tripped up by Pepperdine, 3-1, Saturday. The Lions (2-5) were held to just five hits against Jonathan Pendergast, who threw seven innings of one-run ball.
Starting pitcher Kevin Roy struggled with command early, allowing a single and hitting two batters to load the bases. Jefferson worked a walk to give the Waves (x-x) a 1-0 advantage after one inning.
Robb Paller drew a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth and moved to third on a Nick Maguire double. Lane Robinette evened the score with an RBI groundout, but Pepperdine regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth.
A pair of singles led to a two-run double from Anderson to restore the Waves' lead at 3-1 and kept Columbia at bay the rest of the way.
Roy settled in after the first, allowing three runs on eight hits to go with five strikeouts. Thomas Crispi pitched two scoreless innings of relieft.
