STORRS, Conn. – Connecticut scored four unanswered runs and walked off to a 4-3 victory in game two of a doubleheader to secure a series win over the Columbia baseball team. The Lions (5-13) dropped game one of the twinbill, 3-0.
Four UConn pitchers combined to throw a five-hitter and shutout the Lions in the opener. Kevin Roy had a shutout going of his own through six innings, but the Huskies put three on the board in the bottom of the seventh to go on for the victory.
With two away, singles from Keith Krueger and Jack Sundberg gave UConn runners on first and third. Bryan Daniello drove in what proved to be the game-winning run and chased Roy from the ballgame. Two Columbia errors prolonged the inning and aided two more Husky scores.
Roy's (1-2) final line was 6.2 innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits. He fanned a season-high seven batters.
Nick Maguire went 2-for-4 from the plate. Will Savage saw his 18 game on-base streak end and Robb Paller's 13 game hitting streak also came to a close.

The Lions ended an 11 inning scoring drought in the first inning of the night cap. John Kinne singled and a pair of Husky miscues (an error and wild pitch) allowed the senior third baseman to come across.
Kinne was in the middle of the action again in the third, driving in Savage from second. Paller reached on a single to push Kinne and scored after another UConn error to extend the advantage to 3-0.
In the bottom of the inning, the Huskies pulled within two with an RBI groundout from Aaron Hill. A base-hit from Alex LeFevre in the seventh brought in Joe DeRoche-Duffin to make it 3-2.
Columbia worked out of trouble in the eighth inning to preserve the lead, but could not hold off UConn in the ninth. Bryan Daniello led the frame off with a single and Krueger was hit by a pitch. LeFevre sacrificed both runners into scoring position with a bunt and a wild pitch evened the score.
Connor Buckley then hit a ball into the infield, the Lions threw home, but Krueger slid in safely to end the game.
Starting pitcher Josh Simpson allowed one earned run in 6.2 innings and struck out seven.
Kinne finished game two 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
The Lions will open up Ivy League play next weekend at home when they welcome Yale to Robertson Field at Satow Stadium on Saturday, April 2. First pitch of game one is slated for 12 p.m.
