Track & Field Puts Up Points at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Columbia women's track & field team had two second and three third place finishes, while the men's team won the 4x800m relay at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary.
In total, the women took third among the 43 women's teams at the meet with 71.5 points, while the men took 10th in the 44-team field with 34 points.
On Friday, the women picked up points from three finishers in the 1500m run, led by Olivia Sadler. The senior was the runner-up in the event at 4:22.89, followed by Libby Kokes in fifth at 4:25.99, who was right ahead of Sarah Hardie in sixth at 4:27.08.
In the 4x100m relay, Iris Chijioke, Jaycee Parker, Akua Obeng-Akrofi and Ashley Cunningham claimed second in 47.23. The 4x800m relay claimed third in 9:03.81, behind Katherine Sammer, Hardie, Sadler and Kokes, while the sprint medley team of Cunningham, Obeng-Akrofi, Parker and Brittney Wade were also third in 3:59.43. The women's distance medley team of Devon Towell Jillian Murray, McKenzie Sup and Leila Mantilla took third in 11:59.92.
Wade came through with a fourth place finish in the 800m run, clocking a 2:09.26, while Iris Chijioke also finished fourth in the 100m hurdles at 14.78. Cunningham was a sixth place finisher in the 100m dash at 12.21.
A championship run in the 4x800m relay by Taylor Click, Josiah Langstaff, Robert Napolitano and Alek Sauer led the way for the men's team. The quartet crossed the line in 7:33.24, edging second place Providence, who was looming in 7:33.92.
Napolitano had a strong meet overall, as the junior also claimed second in the 1500m run at 3:46.39. His 4x800m relay teammate, Sauer, was a sixth place finisher in the 800m run at 1:53.08, which is what Corey Hammond took in the 400m hurdles at 53.24.
The men's distance medley team of Spencer Haik, Johnathan Sowah, Brian McGovern and Benjamin Ritz crossed the line in 10:02.65 for third. The 4x400m relay team also had a strong run, when Ronald Busby, Yelnats Calvin, Johnathan Sowah and Hammond clocked a 3:18.65 for sixth.
