Del Valle Named Ivy League Volleyball Player of the Week

NEW YORK — Columbia sophomore Luciana Del Valle has been named Ivy League Volleyball Player of the Week. The league office announced its weekly volleyball honors on Monday.
Del Valle, an outside hitter, hit .319 with 34 kills, 27 digs, seven total blocks, four aces and 42 total points to help Columbia post a 3-1 record at the Lion Invitational. Her weekend was highlighted by a season-high 12-kill performance in a 3-0 sweep over BIG EAST foe Providence on Friday night, in which she hit .500 and added a season-high 11 digs for her first double-double of the year. Del Valle went on to hit .333 with eight kills and two blocks in Saturday morning's sweep of Hartford, before closing out the tournament with 10 kills and two blocks that night in another sweep over Fordham.
For the week, Del Valle averaged 3.09 kills per set, 2.45 digs per set and 3.82 points per set.
The Ivy League Player of the Week selection is the first of Del Valle's career. The Lima, Peru native was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week as a first-year on September 29, 2015.
Columbia's Chichi Ikwuazom landed on the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll. The first-year impressed with 11 kills and 11 blocks in Saturday night's victory over Fordham. She ranks atop the Ivy League with 1.65 blocks per set. Ikwuazom and Del Valle were both named to the Lion Invitational All-Tournament Team.
The Lions (5-5) return to action this Saturday, opening up the 2016 Ivy League slate against Cornell (5-4). First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m., inside Levien Gymnasium.
