PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Columbia women's basketball team suffered from a tough-shooting second half and fell to Brown, 69-60, Saturday afternoon in Ivy League action at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Columbia (12-7, 2-4 Ivy) held a 36-30 halftime lead, but was outscored 19-7 in the third quarter to fall behind. Brown (13-6, 4-2 Ivy) gained its first lead since the opening minutes with a 13-3 run to begin the half and the Lions were never able to find the offense they needed to apply the pressure. The Bears connected on 25 of 27 free throws (92.6 pct.) to finish off the game.

“The third quarter really hurt us,” said head coach Megan Griffith. “Brown is doing a really nice job this year and we didn't stick to our game plan. There were not a lot of positives to take from this one, but we took a big step forward over these last two weeks and I want us to keep building off of that.”

Despite outrebounding Brown 51-34, Columbia's season-low 30.8 percent shooting (20-65), including 23 percent (7-30) in the second half, was too much to overcome. The outing came just one day after connecting at 43 percent, including 50 percent from long range (9-18) in a 72-68 win at Yale.

Junior Camille Zimmerman registered game-highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds for her Ivy League-leading 10th double-double. Sophomore Paulina Koerner scored 14 points and grabbed a career-high eight boards. Senior Devon Roeper came up one rebound shy of double figures with nine.

For Brown, Taylor Will and Shayna Mehta each scored 18 points on a combined 12 of 28 (42.9 pct.) shooting. Erika Steeves rounded out the Bears in double figures with 12.

Sophomore Emily Surloff opened the scoring with a 3-ball and the Lions shot nearly 50 percent in the first quarter to jump out to a 19-11 lead. Koerner connected on all three of her first-quarter shots and Columbia dominated the glass, 14-3.

Columbia's lead swelled to 10 points when Zimmerman scored off her own miss just 18 seconds into the second quarter. Brown answered with the next eight points and got within a point on multiple occasions, but the Lions responded with a 7-0 run, capped by junior Paige Tippet's second 3-pointer of the afternoon, to regain control before halftime.

Third-quarter foul trouble combined with just two Columbia baskets helped Brown erase the deficit. The Bears went a perfect 10 for 10 at the charity stripe in the quarter and took the lead back, 41-39, when Taylor Will struck from long range.

Columbia never leveled things back up. Sophomore Abby Lee hit a timely 3-ball to slice the margin to a single point, but Brown ended the quarter with six of the last seven to go in front, 49-43, heading to the fourth.

The Lions remained within striking distance in the final period, but could never put together the run they needed.

After playing eight of its last nine on the road, Columbia returns to Levien Gymnasium for its next four contests, beginning with dates against Penn and Princeton next Friday and Saturday. The Quakers visit New York Friday night at 7 p.m., followed by the Tigers on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Postgame Notes:

- Camille Zimmerman recorded her 10th double-double and 14th 20-point game of the season.

- Paulina Koerner earned her 10th double-figure scoring game to go with a career-high eight rebounds.
