Columbia Renews Series With Hofstra On Tuesday

The Columbia men’s soccer returns home Tuesday evening to take on Hofstra at 7:00 p.m. live on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Dylan Mott and Vana Markarian scored first half goals when the Lions held off Yale, 2-1, on Saturday in New Haven.
In the opening moments of the match, Kynan Rocks sent a strike towards goal that was saved but bounced out to Mott. From just inside the box, the senior drove a hooking strike towards the upper-90 to give Columbia a 1-0 lead. Later in the half on a set piece, Markarian flicked a header just inside the post off of a Blake Willis assist, making it a 2-0 contest. Yale would add a second half goal, but the defense tightened up, helping the Lions pick up a crucial three points in the Ivy League standings.
ABOUT THE PRIDE
Unbeaten in its last three outings, Hofstra enters the match at 8-5-4 this year, holding a 5-2-1 mark in the CAA. Tuesday will be the last regular season test for the Pride, before the CAA Tournament begins on Saturday, Nov. 3.
Matthew Vowinkel leads the team in scoring with six goals, while Luke Brown is one point behind him with five goals and one assist. In net, Alex Ashton has started 14 of 17 contests, posting a 6-5-3 record with eight shutouts and 14 goals against (0.96 GAA).
LIKE OPPONENTS
Hofstra has three opponents on the schedule that are shared with Columbia. The Pride defeated Harvard on Sept. 9 by a 3-0 tally before besting Dartmouth (1-0) on Sept. 18, and drawing (0-0) at Brown (Oct. 23). Columbia has yet to play Harvard but had a similar 1-0 win over Dartmouth on Oct. 19, and defeated Brown 3-0 on Sept. 29.
SERIES HISTORY
Columbia and Hofstra were scheduled to re-new their series last year, but weather forced a cancellation of a match that was not made up. The two squads have not met since 2006 on Long Island, when Columbia took home a 1-0 victory. The Lions hold a 15-3-4 all-time record against the Pride.
IVY LEAGUE STANDINGS
After Princeton posted a 2-0 win over Cornell this Saturday, Columbia sits alone in second place, one point behind the Tigers. The Lions and the Quakers of Penn are the only two teams in the conference with mid-week games this week.
