NEW YORK – Columbia is aiming to stay hot against Harvard on Saturday, with a road match in Cambridge at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Columbia routed Hofstra 4-0, behind two goals from Sam Hatem and one each from Lucho Gazcon and Spiros Stamoulis. Hatem scored his first goal of the season in the second minute of action, then followed that up with another goal in the 26th thanks to a Matthew Swain helper. Gazcon made his presence felt in the 38th minute with an assist by Beto Carrillo, before Nick Marcin set up Stamoulis for a second half score. Dylan Castanheira had a clean sheet despite Hofstra peppering him with 11 shots, including four on goal.
SEASON AT A GLANCE
With wins in the past four matches, the Lions enter the weekend as one of the hottest teams in the country. Over that stretch, Columbia has out-scored opponents by a total of 9-2, which began by an overtime game-winner off the foot of Sebastian Gunbeyi on Oct. 19 over Dartmouth.
Columbia sits at 9-4-1 overall and 4-1 in the Ancient Eight. A victory on Saturday makes it four straight seasons with at least 10 wins.
ABOUT HARVARD
The Crimson come into this game sporting a record of 3-11 (1-4 Ivy) and currently are tied for seventh in the conference. The highlights of Harvard's season were back-to-back victories against Boston University and Yale in late September. Rookie Alfred Perez leads the scoring efforts with three goals, closely followed by junior Taner Dogan and senior Cesar Farias Jr. with two each.
Three players have been seen in net this year for Harvard, with sophomore Matt Freese getting the most action in 11 starts with 17 goals against.
SERIES HISTORY
Columbia trails Harvard in terms of overall record, sporting a 25-39-5 advantage. A season ago on a misty pitch at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium, Columbia ran away with a 6-0 victory of Harvard, with four of those goals coming from Arthur Bosua.
IVY STANDINGS
With a pair of matches remaining for the entire league, Princeton still has a lead on the title chase with 13 points and a home match with Penn before a trip to Yale next weekend. Columbia is one point behind going into the weekend, and will look to secure wins over Harvard and Cornell before hoping that the Tigers can drop points.
