Heavyweight Rowing Back In Action For Doc Lusins Trophy

The Lions will vie for more hardware against Boston University with Syracuse rowing as a guest in the regatta.

BOSTON, MASS. - The Columbia heavyweight rowing team will take on No. 9 Boston University and No. 14 Syracuse this Saturday, April 21 on the Charles River for the Doc Lusins Trophy in what should prove to be a competitive day of racing.

WHAT'S ON THE LINE
The Doc Lusins Trophy is named in honor of Columbia's 1959 captain John "Doc" Lusins and is contested between Boston University and Columbia. The trophy features a unique bow ball design and was established in 2003 by John's son Michael Lusins, who rowed for Boston University and graduated in 1998.  The Terriers have won the cup the last seven years.

COLUMBIA'S STATUS
Last weekend the No. 13 Lions hosted then No. 2 Yale and No. 14 Penn at home for the Blackwell Cup.  Columbia fell to the Bulldogs in all three races, but was able to come up with wins against Penn to avenge losses to the Quakers the week before on Lake Carnegie.

BU'S STATUS
Last weekend the Terriers fell to then No. 8 ranked Dartmouth in a close race in the Varsity Eight to lose the Bill Cup for the second consecutive year.

SYRACUSE'S STATUS
Syracuse came away with the Stagg Trophy for the first time since 2011 last weekend against then No. 11 Cornell and No. 15 Navy.  The Cup is awarded to the team point leader for the day.  However, a loss in the Varsity Eight meant foregoing the Goes Trophy.

A LOOK BACK...
Columbia was swept by BU in all three races, but was able to come up with a win over Syracuse in the second varsity eight.
