NEW YORK – The Columbia men's soccer team looks to earn its second win of the week, with a trip to Monmouth on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
A hat trick from Kynan Rocks and a clean sheet by Dylan Castanheira helped Columbia earn a 3-0 win over Binghamton on Monday night.
Rocks got the Lions on the board in the 24th minute, when a Dylan Mott strike from the top of the box was redirected by his senior teammate and found the goal for his first of the season. In the 38th minute, Vana Markarian flipped the field and found a streaking Rocks on a long forward ball. Rocks handled the pass and beat the Binghamton keeper 1-on-1 for the goal.
In the second half, defender Blake Willis took back possession near midfield, streaked ahead and connected with Sebastian Gunbeyi, who one-touched to Rocks in the box for his third goal of the game. Castanheira saved two shots en route to his first shutout of the year and 21st of his career, putting him in a tie for second in the Columbia record book and just two behind Gary Escher's all-time record of 23.
SEASON AT A GLANCE
After a 1-1 start with a loss to Kentucky and a win at No. 11 Butler during the first pair of matches, the Lions came back to draw Army on the road on Sept. 7, before the victory over the Bearcats.
Junior John Denis earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors for his efforts in week one, scoring a goal in the win over the Bulldogs and adding an assist at Army. Rocks leads the team with three goals, while Markarian, Denis, and Francisco Agrest have one each. In net, Castanheira has played every minute thus far, going 2-1-1 with 10 saves, 3 goals against, and a 0.68 goals against average.

In the 65th minute, Columbia took the lead for good, as Mott was able to connect inside the far post for the game-winner.
Last year at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium, Agrest got Columbia on the board in the first half, then Matthew Swain and Mott assisted Arthur Bosua in the second on another score, as the Lions earned a 2-1 home win.
