Allie Hays leads the way for Lions, taking 43rd place with a time of 20:36.8, Erin Gregoire finished 47th at 20:41.8 and Libby Kokes took 49th overall (20:42.6).
MADISON, Wis.- The Columbia women's cross country team claimed an 11th place finish out of 33 participating schools at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Lions defeated five nationally-ranked schools in the field, and was the highest finishing Northeast regional school at the meet. This is the highest finish at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Columbia cross country history.
Sophomore Allie Hays was the top finisher for Columbia, taking 43rd place with a time of 20:36.8 over the 6k course. Following closely behind Hays was Erin Gregoire with a 20:41.8 claiming 47th place. Senior Libby Kokes took 49th overall at 20:42.6, junior Katie Wasserman finished 68th with 20:55.5, and completing the top five for the lions was Maria Kogan in 81st with a time of 21:03.5.
With the 11th place effort, the Lions finished ahead of No. 13 Penn State who was 13th, No. 25 Providence (20th), and No. 27 Georgetown (25th). Portland and Oklahoma State are tied in the rankings at 29, and claimed 12th and 15th respectively at today's race.
The weekend is not over for the Lions, as members of the men's and women's squads head to the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University tomorrow in Bethlehem, Pa.
