Columbia Faces Cornell, Binghamton This Weekend

The Columbia wrestling team returns to the Blue Gym twice this weekend, battling Cornell on Saturday before welcoming Binghamton on Sunday.
NEW YORK – The Columbia wrestling team returns to the Blue Gym twice this weekend, battling Cornell on Saturday before welcoming Binghamton on Sunday. Both EIWA duals start at 1:00 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN+.
ABOUT THE LIONS
The Lions got off to their best start in duals in over a decade, topping Cleveland State and George Mason last Thursday to improve to 4-1. Two days later, Columbia suffered its first loss of the season when American took seven of 10 bouts during a 26-10 victory.
Senior Dan Reed currently leads the way, boasting a 16-3 record at 157 while going 5-0 in duals. A winner the past three times out and in seven of his past eight matches, Reed scored a major decision in in the fourth bout of the American dual, keeping the hopes for a Columbia comeback alive.
Also impressing this season in the win category is Laurence Kosoy, who is now 16-6 overall at 165, including a 4-1 mark in dual matches. Kosoy's dual record matches that of rookie Danny Fongaro, who improved to 10-7 overall last weekend when he became one of eight Lions with double-digit wins.

Cornell enters Saturday as the No. 10 ranked dual meet team in the Intermat poll, with a 5-2 record overall. The Big Red have lost the past two times out, falling to No. 6 Missouri on Dec. 30 by a 22-9 mark, before being edged by Lehigh on Jan. 12, 19-16.
The Big Red still boast six ranked wrestlers in the polls, headlined by top-ranked Yianni Diakomihalis at 141. After an NCAA title during his rookie season in which he went 37-1, Diakomihalis is unbeaten at 12-0, with nine of those wins featuring bonus points. His sophomore classmate Max Dean (184) is featured in the top-10 at 10-4 overall, along with No. 11 Vito Arujau (125/13-1), No. 12 Chas Tucker (133/14-4), No. 15 Brandon Womack (174/11-5), and No. 17 Ben Honis (197/8-2).

Through three dual matches, Binghamton has an 0-3 record, falling to Cornell on Nov. 16 (36-6), Buffalo on Dec. 6 (29-10), and most recently at (Army 30-7) on Jan. 13. Prior to Sunday's match, the Bearcats head to Penn for a 7:00 p.m. dual on Friday evening.
The Bearcats feature one wrestler in the rankings this season in first-year Lou DePrez. The 184-pounder is 16-4 this season with four major decisions. Aside from DePrez, Anthony Sparacio is 13-9 at 141, and Vincent DePrez also has double-digit victories at 174 with a record of 10-8.
