NEW YORK-Columbia fencing found success at the St. John's Super Cup Saturday. Overall, the Lions finished tied for the combined team title with a 7-3 record. The men's squad finished on top of the leaderboard, coming ahead of the defending national champions Notre Dame. The women's team fell to finish fifth among the field.
"I am very pleased with how the men and women fenced," Head Fencing Coach
Michael Aufrichtig said. "A few touches here and there would have made the difference in the women's overall record. Men finished 5-0 which is exciting! It was an overall great day. Now on to tomorrow!"
The St. John's Super Cup is one of the most important duel meets of the year, as it brings together the most historically successful collegiate fencing programs to one meet. This meet helps the Lions prep for the Ivy League championships, which takes place February 9-10.
The Lions now head onto the Philadelphia Invite tomorrow, where they will face off against Notre Dame, NYU, St. John's, Wayne State and Ohio State.
