NEWS/NOTES

CORNELL'S STATUS
The Big Red come in winners of four of their last five with the lone loss coming at Wake Forest. Matt Morgan is one of the most prolific scorers in the country, averaging 23.4 points (12th in the NCAA). Steven Julian is the team's top rebounder (6.8 RPG) and shot blocker (1.7 BPG). Defensively, Cornell has guarded the 3-point line well, holding opponents to 30.3 percent shooting from downtown.

LAST TIME OUT...
Columbia's 13-0 run was capped by six -straght from Stefanini to put the Lions on top for the first time all game, 58-57, on a step-back jumper from the right baseline with 2:31 to play. After Boeheim's triple, the Big Red missed the front ends of two separate 1-and-1 opportunities in the final 30 seconds to give the Lions a chance. Columbia turned it over the first time but Stefanini got to the stripe with 3.5 seconds left and a chance to tie. He sank the first, but watched as his second fell off the rim. Sophomore Randy Brumant was able to grab the offensive rebound but his putback was no good as the horn sounded.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Columbia holds a 129-102 edge in the all-time series with Cornell. Last year, the teams each held serve at home. It was the sixth time in the past eight seasons the Lions and Big Red have drawn a season split.
