The Lions were outscored by 12 in the second half; Shot 25 percent from deep in the loss
NEW YORK — Columbia men's basketball dropped the second night of a back-to-back, 80-68, to Princeton on Saturday night from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium.
Kenny Noland's 20-point game marked his ninth of the season. His three steals on the night moved him into a tie for seventh all-time in program history with 110, sharing the spot with Matt Shannon (1985-89). Mason Ritter finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
Columbia (14-7, 3-4) was plagued by second-half shooting struggles, only knocking down 13-of-36 from the field across the final 20 minutes. Princeton (8-14, 4-3) stayed hot all night, finishing the night on 28-of-49 field goal shooting and 8-of-15 three-point shooting. The Tigers' Jack Stanton led the game with 21 points on six threes.
Columbia made 10 of their first 15 shots as they took a 22-13 lead with 10:09 to go in the first half. Miles Franklin turned the corner and put his defender on a poster with a vicious and-1 dunk to push that lead to 25-16.
Princeton jumped back into action with a 12-2 run to take a 28-27 lead as the Lions hit a 4-of-17 shooting slump to close out the half. A Noland three with 2:12 before the break briefly put the Lions back in front, but the Tigers and Lions went to the locker room tied up at 34-34.
The Lions initially held on tight to kick off the final 20, as they tied the game four times within the first five minutes. The Tigers went on a 12-2 run as Columbia struggled to score, taking a 67-54 lead with 5:24 left in the game. A Gerard O'Keefe three brought Columbia back into single-digits with 3:14 remaining, but Princeton remained in the driver's seat and led by as much as 14 down the stretch.
Columbia closes out a three-game homestand next Saturday against Cornell. Tip-off inside Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets.
