Tischler has helped guide Columbia to four Ivy League Championships in his six seasons on Brett Boretti's staff.
NEW YORK – Columbia baseball head coach Brett Boretti announced Dan Tischler has been promoted to associate head coach after serving on the Lions' staff for the past six seasons.
"Dan has been a crucial part of the success of our program," said Boretti. "He has been a coach on five of the last seven Ivy League Baseball Championship teams (2012 at Cornell, 2013-15 and 2018 at Columbia). He works tirelessly as a recruiter off the field and as a teacher and mentor on the field. I am excited to add associate head coach to his title. It is very well-deserved."
Tischler has been a part of four Ivy League Championships during his time at Morningside Heights. He serves as the team's recruiting coordinator, works primarily with the infield and coaches third base for the Lions.
"I want to thank Coach Boretti for this new opportunity," Tischler stated. "His mentorship, guidance and leadership have led us to tremendous success as a program and my successes as a developing coach. I am honored by this new title and can't wait to help our team continue to compete for Ivy League Championships and on a national level."
The Lions hitting, infield defense and base running have excelled under Tischler's guidance. Columbia boasted one of the top offenses in the Ivy League over the past two seasons and led the conference in nine different offensive categories during that span. Tischler has aided the Lions in setting program records for fielding percentage twice in back-to-back seasons (2013 - .971, 2014 - .975) and double plays turned (48) in 2015.
A total of 18 infielders have earned All-Ivy League accolades throughout Tischler's tenure, including two Rookies of the Year honorees, a Player of the Year and at least three student-athletes on all-conference squads for the past five seasons.
A native New Yorker, Tischler came to Columbia after spending the previous two years as an assistant coach at Cornell. In 2012, he helped guide the Big Red to a program record for wins (31), Ivy League wins (14) and the program's first Ivy League championship since 1976.
Prior to his stint at Cornell, Tischler was the pitching coach at Swarthmore (Pa.) for two seasons. In 2010, the Garnet had its first 20-win season in 25 years and made the Centennial Conference tournament for the first time in program history.
Tischler played four years at Franklin & Marshall and was a team captain in 2008. A first team all-conference second team ABCA All-Region pitcher, Tischler graduated as the F&M career record holder for saves with 10 and is currently second on the career list.
Tischler graduated cum laude from Franklin & Marshall in 2008 and received his Master's degree in education from Columbia's Teachers College in 2012.
