The Lions erased a seven-run deficit in game one for a 9-8 win to take the series before the finale was halted after nine innings and the game tied at 15-15
Columbia improved to 13-21-1 overall and 8-8-1 in Ivy League play, while Yale moved to 23-13-1 and 11-6-1 in conference action.
Game 1
The opener was a tale of two halves, as Columbia battled through early command issues before its bullpen settled in and the offense erupted late.
Yale jumped out quickly, scoring in the first before a five-run second inning broke things open. The Bulldogs added another run to take a 7-0 lead, using aggressive baserunning and productive outs to build the early cushion.
Columbia began to chip away in the fourth when Estabrook hooked a home run around the left-field foul pole for his fifth of the season.
Yale threatened to extend its lead in the sixth, loading the bases with two outs. The Lions turned to first-year Jack Korthas, who fired three straight strikes after falling behind 3-0 to escape the jam and keep the deficit manageable.
That moment proved pivotal.
Columbia seized the momentum in the bottom half, as Cole Fellows launched a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 7-3. Korthas followed with a 1-2-3 inning, setting the stage for a big seventh.
Ben Fishel and Jimmy Chadwell opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and Tate Vogler crushed a three-run homer to deep right, bringing the Lions within one.
Yale scratched across an insurance run in the eighth, but Columbia had one final push.
Chadwell worked a leadoff walk in the ninth, and Jack Kail followed with a clutch ground-rule double to plate a run and trim the deficit to one. After a hit-by-pitch and a walk loaded the bases, Estabrook stepped in and lined a two-run single to the outfield, scoring Kail and Hunter Snyder to complete the comeback.
Evan Kleinhans (2-2) earned the win with 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings out of the bullpen.
Game 2
Game two turned into an offensive battle, with both teams trading blows in a 15-15 tie called due to darkness.
Columbia struck early, plating 10 runs over the first three innings, including a four-run third to build a commanding 10-2 lead.
The Lions totaled 15 runs on 14 hits and matched their season high in doubles. Chadwell led the way, going 3-for-3 with his first collegiate home run and a career-high four RBI. Kail added three hits and an RBI, while Anthony Temesvary and Ben Fishel each drove in two.
Columbia jumped ahead in the first as Kail led off with a double before Temesvary brought him home with an RBI double. Temesvary later scored on a wild pitch, and Estabrook added a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
After Yale answered with two runs in the second, Columbia responded immediately. The Lions loaded the bases with three walks before Kail delivered an RBI single. Temesvary followed with a sacrifice fly, and Fellows added an RBI knock to extend the lead.
Columbia broke the game open in the third. Estabrook led off with a double and scored on an RBI single from Fishel. Chadwell followed with a two-run homer to left, and another run crossed on a Yale throwing error to make it 10-2.
Yale clawed back into the game with six runs across the fourth and fifth innings, capitalizing on a mix of timely hitting and Columbia miscues to cut the lead to 10-8.
The Bulldogs continued to chip away and eventually surged ahead in the seventh following a two-run homer from Kaiden Dossa.
Columbia answered again in the bottom half. Chadwell kept the inning alive with an infield single, and Vogler lifted a sacrifice fly to push the Lions back in front, 15-11.
Yale mounted its biggest rally in the ninth, stringing together four hits to open the inning and capitalizing on a Columbia error during a sacrifice bunt to score four runs and tie the game.
With daylight fading, the Lions went down in order in the bottom of the ninth, and umpires ruled there was not enough time to begin another inning, resulting in a tie.
It marked Columbia's first tie since 2007, when it played to a 3-3 draw against Saint Mary's.
Kleinhans started the game, making his fourth consecutive appearance. He tossed 3.0 innings with a strikeout and allowed two runs on seven hits.
With one RBI in the nightcap, Fellows moved into a tie for No. 10 on Columbia's career RBI list with 110, while Kail climbed to fourth all-time after driving in his 123rd run.
