Columbia Heads Up the Hudson to Battle Army Saturday

Lions make first trip to West Point since 2012

NEW YORK – The Columbia women's basketball team (2-3) concludes a three-game road swing on Saturday with a short trip up the Hudson River to Army West Point (1-3). Tip from Christl Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Saturday's game will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network. Army's radio broadcast will be accessible on TuneIn. Live stats will be provided by GoArmyWestPoint.com.

OPENING TIPS
• Columbia is coming off a trip to defending conference champions Buffalo and Robert Morris. The Lions led the majority of the night at Buffalo, the reigning MAC champion, but succumbed in the fourth quarter, 82-75. They rebounded on Sunday with a victory over the reigning NEC champion, overcoming a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Robert Morris, 61-59. The trip ended a three-game stretch against defending conference champions with Columbia going 2-1 in those contests.

• Sienna Durr posted career-highs in scoring (31), rebounding (13), field goals (11-21) and 3-pointers (5-10) on Friday at Buffalo. Her 31 points ties for the 11th-most in a game in program history. She recorded the first 30-10 game by a Lion since Camille Zimmerman went for 31 and 11 at Harvard on Feb. 2, 2018.

• First year guard Abbey Hsu is averaging 15.0 points and is Columbia's leading scorer through five games. Hsu is shooting 51.7 percent to this point and an impressive 52.9 percent (9-17) from long range. Durr is the team's second-leading scorer (13.4) and leading rebounder (7.0).

• Columbia's starting five has not changed over the first five games. Four of Columbia's five starters are underclassmen. First year Abbey Hsu and sophomore Hannah Pratt (injury) had not started a collegiate game prior to this season. Senior captain Janiya Clemmons is the lone upperclassman in the starting five.

QUICK NOTES
• Columbia leads the Ivy League in offensive rebounds per game (14.6)
• The Lions are averaging 4.0 blocks per game after finishing last season averaging 1.6.
• Abbey Hsu ranks No. 6 in the Ivy League in scoring (15.0). Sienna Durr is just outside the top 10 (13.4 ppg)
• Durr is top 10 in the Ivy League in rebounding (7.0).
• Five Lions (Durr, Clemmons, Davis, Pratt, Hsu) rank inside the Ivy League's top 20 in rebounding.
• Hannah Pratt and Kaitlyn Davis each rank among the league's top 10 in blocks.
• Janiya Clemmons is sixth in the Ivy League in steals (1.6/game).
• Columbia has held its opponent to fewer than 60 points in both of its wins this season.
• Columbia has shot better than its opponent in four of its first five games.

WRAPPING UP BUFFALO AND ROBERT MORRIS
• Columbia led Buffalo 28-20 after shooting 70.6 percent through the first quarter. It marked the most points by the Lions in the first quarter since last January, when they opened with 28 in an 88-63 win over Hampton.

• The Lions improved to 2-0 all-time against Robert Morris. The two sides last met in 2009 in another close finish, as Lauren Dwyer hit a buzzer-beating three to win the game, 64-63, in Moon Township.

• Hannah Pratt scored a season-high 13 points against the Colonials and was 3-for-5 from 3-point range.

• The Lions handed Robert Morris its first loss at the newly built UPMC Events Center.

TOURNAMENT TESTED
• Three of Columbia's first five opponents qualified for last year's NCAA Tournament as winners of their respective conferences. The Lions posted a record of 2-1 in those contests, which began by soundly defeating Atlantic 10 champion Fordham, 70-51, at home. The Lions then went on the road to take on last year's MAC champion, Buffalo, and NEC champion, Robert Morris. Columbia led the majority of the game and put up a strong fight against Buffalo before the Bulls pulled away in the fourth quarter, 82-75. However, two days later, the Lions took out Robert Morris down in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, 61-59, rallying back from seven points down in the fourth quarter and surviving a potential game-winning three at the buzzer.

• The Lions aren't finished with defending conference champions. Following the New Year, they will welcome two-time defending Southern Conference champion Mercer to Levien Gymnasium for a rematch. Last season, Columbia handed the Bears a 72-68 loss in Macon, Georgia, which wound up being Mercer's loss before going on to capture the Southern Conference regular season and tournament championships in undefeated fashion.

SCOUTING ARMY
• The Black Knights are coming off a 70-64 loss at St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday and are 1-3 to start the year. Sabria Hunter had 16 points and 17 rebounds in the contest for her second consecutive double-double. She averages 12.3 points and a team-best 9.0 boards through the first four contests. Lindsey Scammen has Hunter edged in scoring (12.8), thanks in part to a 22-point night in the season opener against William & Mary. Army ranks toward the bottom of the Patriot League in most statistical categories, but those numbers a slightly skewed due to an 83-51 loss at Arizona State.
