PRINCETON, N.J. — The Columbia women's swimming and diving team is set to open up the postseason this week, traveling to Princeton, New Jersey, for the 2019 Ivy League Championships. The four-day meet will run from Feb. 20-23 at DeNunzio Pool.
Action will kick off Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET with the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay finals. From Thursday to Saturday, preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. each day, with finals commencing at 6 p.m.
Fans can catch all the action from both sessions Thursday-Saturday live on ESPN+, with live results available all week.
DUAL SEASON IN REVIEW
Columbia is highly energized after posting its best Ivy League dual season finish since the 2013-14 campaign. Finishing third in the league with a 5-2 dual mark, the Lions claimed wins over Penn, Princeton, Cornell, Brown and Dartmouth.
The team continually saw progress throughout the season, ending the dual slate with four-straight Ivy League win. The Lions have not been defeated since Nov. 16 (at Harvard).
LOOKING BACK: 2018 IVIES
The Lions aim to improve on last season's fifth-place finish at the league meet. Columbia returns 10 of 13 student-athletes who posted top-16 finishes at the Ivy League Championships a season ago, including senior Mary Ashby who earned top-six finishes in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events and junior Helen Wojdylo who placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke.
Many Lions will be looking to break the barrier from the 'B' final into the championship final, including junior Julia Samson who placed ninth in the 200 backstroke and sophomore Jessica He who was ninth overall in the 200 free.
LIONS TO WATCH
Six swimmers across nine different events are seeded inside the top 16 as it stands this season.
Wojdylo is the highest ranked swimmer in any event for the Lions, currently with the fastest time in the league in the 100 breast with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:01.61. She also enters the meet with the seventh-fastest time in the 200 breast (2:16.49) and the 12th-fastest in the 200 IM (2:02.17).
Ashby sits in the top 10 of each of her individual events. She sits at No. 3 in the 50 free (22.92), No. 7 in the 100 free (50.08) and No. 9 in the 100 back (55.54).
First-year Mary Pruden ranks in the top eight in two events, slated as the sixth-fastest time in the 400 IM (4:19.21) and seventh-best in the 200 back (1:59.90).
In both the backstroke events, Samson owns top-10 times led by the fourth-best mark in the 100 back (55.21), as well as the ninth-fastest time in the 200 back (2:00.54).
In the 200 free, sophomore Jessica He owns the sixth-best time in the league at 1:48.56.
Senior Jessica Antiles rounds out the list, sitting with the No. 14 time in the conference in the 400 IM at 4:24.40.
