
Lions Complete Day One at Ivy Indoor Heps

Erin Gregoire dominates, wins women's 3,000-meter title by three full seconds, Brian Zabilski places second in men's 3,000-meter run, 11 Lions qualify for Sunday's finals at Ivy Heps.
On Saturday, a total of nine final events (four men's and five women's) were completed: the 3,000-meter run, pole vault, long jump, weight throw, along with the women's pentathlon. The majority of the track events will take place on Sunday.
In a dominant performance, Gregoire burst away from the pack and won the 3,000-meter women's title by three seconds in front of her closest competitor. She finished with a 9:25.65 time and earned 10 points for Columbia in the process.
Zabilski finished the 3,000-meter run in 8:13.28, less than one second behind Harvard's Kieran Tuntivate and a half-second ahead of third place finisher Brown's Cameron Day. For his efforts, he earned eight points and earned Second Team All-Ivy League honors. It marks Zabilski's third career track and field First or Second Team All-Ivy League honor as he won the 10,000-meter outdoor title in 2018, finished second in the 5,000-meter in 2016.
Other Columbia scorers on Saturday included Jack Philkar, who finished fourth and earned four points in the men's weight throw with a 18.61 meter throw, Robert O'Brien, who finished sixth in the men's pole vault at 4.95 meters and earned one point, and Allie Hays, who took sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a 9:35.71 time for one point.
Qualifying for finals on the women's side included Terri Turner, who put up the top time in the 500-meter dash (1:12.39), Sydney Groom in the 500-meter dash (8th, 1:15.28), Bianca Alonzo in the 1,000-meter run (6th, 2:51.74), Katie Wasserman (3rd, 4:49.36) and Annie Fanta (4th, 4:51.29) in the 1,000-meter run and Simone Kirton in the 60-meter hurdles (8th, 8.65).
Men's qualifiers included Jackson Storey (2nd, 1:53.61) and Josiah Langstaff (4th, 1:53.79) in the 800-meter run, Alek Sauer in the 1,000-meter run (top time, 2:27.36), Sam Ritz (top time, 4:08.87) and Solomon Fountain (10th, 4:13.41).
In the team competition, Columbia is in fifth place in the men's standings with 13 points and in sixth place in the women's with 11 points.

The top six finishers in each event receive team points: 10 points for first place, eight points for second place, six points for third place, four points for fourth place, two points for fifth and one point for sixth place. All-Ivy awards are based on the results of the championships, with first-place (including relays) earning first-team All-Ivy and second-place (including relays) earning second-team All-Ivy. On Sunday, the league's eight coaches will vote on Most Outstanding Performers for both the women and men and Coach of the Year awards. On Tuesday, the league will announce the Most Outstanding Performer, Coach of the Year awards, along with the All-Ivy teams.
Adult Admission is $16 for a two-day pass and $10 for a single day pass. Student and youth 12 and under admission is $8 for a two-day pass and $5 for a single day pass. Tickets can be purchased at this link or at the door.
