Columbia Challenges Princeton for Dauphiny & Hewitt Cup Saturday

Lions set to race Princeton, Wisconsin and Rutgers on Lake Carnegie
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's rowing team races Princeton for the Lori Dauphiny & Ed Hewitt Cup on Saturday at Lake Carnegie. The regatta pits the Lions against three nationally ranked teams, taking on the No. 7 Tigers, No. 12 Wisconsin and No. 14 Rutgers.
Saturday's racing begins at 8:10 a.m. with competition in the varsity four. The varsity eights take the water in the cup race at 8:30. Princeton came away with the trophy in the inaugural cup race last season. Second varsity crews follow at 8:45 before the second varsity fours take off at 9 a.m.
A tribute to the ties between the Columbia and Princeton coaching staffs, the Hewitt and Dauphiny Cup is named after former Columbia head coach Ed Hewitt '84CC, who led the Lions from their origins as a club sport from 1984 until 1991, and Lori Dauphiny, assistant to Hewitt at Columbia until 1989 and current head coach of Princeton's team. The two are now married with a son. Hewitt currently heads the website row2k.com and Dauphiny, having been named Ivy League and national coach of the year multiple times, has coached the USRowing national team at the Olympics.
Columbia is coming off the Cherry Hill Invitational last weekend, where it earned three top finishes. The varsity eight won its heat and took second in its Grand Final. The second varsity and third varsity crews raced in the same division, each winning their respective heats before posting a 1-2 finish in the Grand Final. The second varsity crew posted a winning time of 7:05.98.
