Lions Keep Alumni Cup, Topping MIT; Finish Second Overall at Regatta

Columbia retains the trophy with its win over the Engineers for the eighth consecutive season.
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Columbia heavyweight rowing team retained the Alumni Cup for the eighth consecutive season, topping MIT in a quad-regatta on Lake Quinsigamond Saturday morning. The Lions finished second overall in the varsity eight with Dartmouth claiming a four-second win in the main event.
The Lions turned in a time of 6:06.3, which was 4.2 seconds off the pace of the Big Green. Columbia's second varsity eight also posted a second-place finish, completing the course in 6:09.39. Dartmouth came up victorious as well in that raced.
In the varsity four, the Lions were topped by a pair of Dartmouth boats and a crew from MIT.
Columbia will face Princeton and Penn in the Childs Cup at Overpeck Park before heading to Piscataway to race Rutgers in the Collins Cup, Saturday, April 13.
