
Pair of Top-25 Foes Await Columbia in Maine

The Lions trek up to Orono for contests against No. 22 BU and the No. 24 Black Bears this weekend.

NEWS/NOTES
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
• Columbia's 5-3 win over Central Michigan Saturday marked the first time the Lions won a season opener since 2014.
• The Lions then went down-to-the-wire with No. 8 Iowa Sunday. With the score tied after 45 minutes, the Hawkeyes posted two goals in the fourth quarter to thwart the Lions' upset bid.
• Three of Columbia's first four games are against teams ranked in the NFHCA Coaches Poll. The Lions also have three more games on the road before opening at home against UMass-Lowell on Sept. 22.
• Jennifer Trieschman, the Lions' leading scorer in 2018 with nine goals, already has three to start the 2019 season, placing her ninth on Columbia's all-time scoring list.
• Junior goalkeeper Alexa Conomikes joined Trieschman on the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll, posting 17 saves in two starts - including 14 at No. 8 Iowa Sunday.
BOSTON UNIVERSITY'S STATUS
• The Terriers have gotten off to a hot start, winning three of their first four. BU's only loss was a 3-2 decison to No. 14 Ohio State.
• Ailsa Connolly has recorded five goals in the Terriers first four games, netting three in one game against Ohio.
• Caroline Kelly has started all games in goal for BU.
MAINE'S STATUS
• The Black Bears lost their only official game last week to Kent State, 2-1, despite leading KSU 13-4 in shots on goal, and are 0-3 on the year.
• Brooke Sulinski and Brianna Ricker lead the team with two goals apiece, with both Sulinski's goals coming against Providence.
• In net, Mia Borley has stopped 18 shots in her three appearances, including 11 against Providence.

Saturday marks the first meeting between the Terriers and the Lions.

Columbia and Maine have faced each other once before, a 2-1 loss to the Black Bears in Hempstead, New York, back in 2005. The Lions scored their only goal in the 54th minute to end the shutout.
