Women's Tennis to Compete at Cissie Leary Invitational

Nine Lions will compete in eight-team invite including senior Ali Pollack, juniors Jennifer Kerr, Christie Wan, and Paulina Ferrari, sophomores Melissa Sakar and Akanksha Bhan, and first-years Shivani Amineni, Julia Haynes, and Michelle Xu.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The Columbia women's tennis team will compete in its second fall invitational this weekend when it travels to Philadelphia for the 23rd annual Cissie Leary Memorial Invitational. The three-day event will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Hamlin Hecht Tennis Centers on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
Competition is expected to begin at 9 a.m. on all three days. Complete brackets and draws are available at this link. Official tournament information is available at this link.
Columbia is one of two Ivy League schools competing in the invitational. Teams competing include Columbia, Delaware, Drexel, Fordham, Penn, Penn State, Temple, William & Mary will be in University City for the weekend.
Columbia is sending nine players to compete at the invitational including senior Ali Pollack, juniors Jennifer Kerr, Christie Wan, and Paulina Ferrari, sophomores Melissa Sakar and Akanksha Bhan, and first-years Shivani Amineni, Julia Haynes, and Michelle Xu.
First contested in 1997, the Cissie Leary Invitational honors the memory of Cissie Leary, head women's tennis coach at Penn from 1977-96. She had 16 winning seasons at the helm and compiled a dual match record of 229-119. Leary passed away in November 1996 following a long battle with scleroderma and this tournament has been held every year since in her honor.
