OPENING TIPS
• Riding a four-game Ivy League winning streak for the first time since 2008, Columbia hits the road for the final time in the regular season to take on Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend.
Â
• Columbia has swept back-to-back Ivy League weekends for the first time in program history. The team's current four-game Ivy League winning streak started two weeks ago when they defeated Dartmouth, 73-63, before earning a convincing 25-point win over Harvard. Columbia used that momentum to go on the road last weekend and defeat Brown, 76-66, and Yale, 74-65. The win over Yale snapped a six-game series losing skid.
Â
•
Kaitlyn Davis was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the first time on Monday. A 6-foot tweener out of Norwalk, Connecticut, Davis averaged 13.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks to help the Lions to victories over the Bears and Bulldogs.
Â
• The Lions enter the penultimate weekend of the regular season tied for third place in the league standings. Columbia is looking to qualify for its first Ivy League Tournament.
Â
• Columbia leads the Ivy League in scoring at 71.4 points per game and is also tops in the Ivy League in 3-point percentage (.351) and assists per game (16.0). In league play, the Lions average an Ivy-best 73.8 points per game.
Â
• A win over Harvard would give Columbia its first five-game Ivy League winning streak in team history.
QUICK NOTES
•
Abbey Hsu leads the team in scoring (14.8) and ranks No. 6 in the Ivy League.
• Hsu is tops in the Ivy League in 3-point field goal percentage (.435) and is No. 3 among all NCAA freshmen.
•
Sienna Durr ranks 11th in the Ivy League in both scoring (13.1) and rebounding (6.0).
• Durr is averaging 16.3 points over her last seven games and shooting 64.5 percent (20-31) in that span.
•
Janiya Clemmons (1.8) and
Abbey Hsu (1.6) are both top 10 in the Ivy League in steals.
•
Mikayla Markham (3.6),
Janiya Clemmons (2.6) and
Carly Rivera (2.5) all rank top 15 in the league in assists.
• Four Lions rank inside the top 12 in the Ivy League in blocks (Pratt, Davis, Kennedy, Durr).
• Columbia has shot better than its opponent in 17 of its 23 games.
• Columbia is 15-0 when holding the opponent to fewer than 70 points and 0-8 when opponent scores more.
• Columbia is 10-2 in day games and 10-3 on the weekend.
• Eleven of Columbia's 15 wins have come when holding the opponent under 40 percent shooting.
• Columbia is in search of its first win at Harvard since 2009 and its first ever season sweep over the Crimson.
EXTRAS FROM BROWN-YALE SWEEP
• Columbia's last Ivy League weekend sweep over Brown and Yale came Feb. 4-5, 2011.
• The road sweep was Columbia's first since defeating Penn and Princeton, Feb. 8-9, 2008.
•
Kaitlyn Davis's double-double against Brown was her second of the year and the fifth by a Lion this season.
• Five Lions scored in double figures in the win against Brown (Durr, Hsu, Davis, Clemmons, Markham), which marked the first such occasion since Feb. 23 of last year, also at Brown.
• Columbia's 50-percent shooting mark from 3-point range against Yale (8-16) marked the second time this season the Lions have shot 50 percent or better from beyond the arc (vs. NJIT, 54.2 pct.).
IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT PICTURE
• Columbia enters the weekend tied with Yale for third place in the Ivy League standings (6-4). Penn is a game ahead of the two teams (7-3) while Princeton (10-0) is the lone team that has clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. Columbia and Yale split the head-to-head season series but Columbia currently owns the tiebreaker between the two sides by virtue of its 1-0 record versus fifth-place Harvard (5-5). The Crimson enter the weekend a game back of a tournament spot but will be looking to play their way back into the field.
WINNING SEASON
• With its wins at Brown and Yale last weekend, Columbia locked up its first winning season since going 18-10 in 2009-10. In fact, the 2009-10 team was the only team in Columbia's Div. I history to post a winning season - the program went Div. I and officially joined the Ivy League in 1986-87. Columbia's six Ivy League wins to this point are its most since going 6-8 in 2010-11. The 2009-10 team was the only one to finish the season with a winning record in Ivy League play (9-5).
SCOUTING HARVARD
• Harvard (14-9, 5-5 Ivy) is trying to snap a three-game Ivy League losing streak that has dropped them to fifth place in the standings. The Crimson have lost their last three games by an average of 22.7 points, falling to Columbia by 25, Princeton by 21 and Penn by 22. Friday's game against the Lions will mark their first home game since Feb. 8. Harvard is 8-2 inside Lavietes Pavilion this season, which is the home of the 2020 Ivy League Basketball Tournaments. First-year Lola Mullaney averages a team-best 14.6 points on the season. Harvard has five players in the top 20 of the Ivy League in rebounds, led by Jeannie Boehm's Ivy-best 9.0 per contest.
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
• The Big Green (8-15, 2-8 Ivy) faced a difficult task last weekend at Penn and Princeton, falling by 36 to the Quakers and 32 to the nationally ranked Tigers. The Big Green started off the Ivy season 1-0 by defeating Harvard but dropped six in a row before going up to Ithaca and beating the Big Red. Dartmouth ranks 339th out of 348 Div. I teams in scoring offense (53.3) and is last in the Ivy League in scoring margin (-11.3), field goal percentage (.367), free throw percentage (.638), rebounds per game (34.22), assists (12.2) and assist/turnover ratio (0.70). Annie McKenna leads the offensive effort with a team-high 10.9 points per game. Paula Lenart, a 5-11 forward, averages a team-best 7.0 rebounds.
