Pride Night, Senior Night Highlight Columbia’s Regular Season Finale

Ivy League Tournament seeding up for grabs as Lions host Princeton and Penn

NEW YORK – The Columbia women's basketball team (17-8, 8-4 Ivy) welcomes No. 21/17 Princeton (24-1, 12-0 Ivy) and Penn (18-7, 8-4 Ivy) to Jonathan D. Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium this weekend for the final two games of the regular season. All three teams have clinched their spot in next weekend's Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament presented by TIAA.
 
Friday's game against the Tigers tips at 7 p.m. The regular season finale on Saturday against Penn will tip at 5 p.m. Amy Lawrence and Maren Walseth will have the call of both games live on ESPN+. PRIDE NIGHT
• Columbia will host its inaugural Pride Night on Friday when the Lions take on Princeton at 7 p.m. The event will celebrate the University's LGBTQ community. The women's basketball team will wear branded Pride Night shooting shirts during pre-game warmups. There will also be in-game promotions featuring both on-campus and off-campus LGBTQ group leaders.
 
 The first 500 fans will receive a free PROUD t-shirt. Tabling and group discounts are available for LGBTQ+ groups. For more information email athleticsmarketing@columbia.edu.
 
 
SENIOR NIGHT
• Columbia will honor its lone senior, Janiya Clemmons, prior to Saturday's regular season finale against Penn. Clemmons has played in 104 career games entering the weekend with 815 points, 419 rebounds, 184 assists and 99 steals. She has played in 88 consecutive games dating back to her rookie season.


BARNARD NIGHT
• In addition to Senior Night, Saturday is also Barnard Night at Levien Gymnasium. Columbia athletics is celebrating its 37th season as part of the Columbia-Barnard Athletic Consortium. The consortium was established in 1983 and officially became part of the women's basketball program in 1984. It provides the opportunity for women students enrolled at the separate colleges to compete within one athletics program while drawing on all the resources of all the colleges. Through the continued development of the program, the university provides all undergraduate women with the finest competitive opportunities. 

 
OPENING TIPS
• With six consecutive Ivy League wins, Columbia (8-4 Ivy) has punched its ticket to the Ivy League Tournament for the first time. This year's tournament will be held March 13-14 at Lavietes Pavilion in Cambridge, Mass. Columbia's current six-game Ivy League winning streak is its longest in program history.
 
• The Lions are tied for second place with Penn entering the final two games. Regardless of the rest of  the results around the league, Columbia will earn either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed with one win this weekend.
 
Abbey Hsu was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for a fifth time on Monday. The first-year guard averaged 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in wins at Harvard and Dartmouth. Her five Rookie of the Week selections are the third-most in program history, one behind both Sienna Durr and Camille Zimmerman '18CC.
 
• Saturday's game will mark Columbia's 10th in program history against a team ranked inside the AP Top 25. The Lions' last game against a ranked opponent came at the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 25, 2017 against then-No. 24 Arizona State. Columbia is hoping for its first Top 25 win.
 
• Columbia is in search of its first win over Princeton since 2008 and first win over Penn since 2011.


QUICK NOTES
Abbey Hsu leads the team in scoring (14.8) and ranks No. 7 in the Ivy League.
• Hsu is tops in the Ivy League in 3-point field goal percentage (.426) and is No. 3 among all NCAA freshmen.
• Hsu's 3-point percentage ranks among the top 25 in the NCAA.
• Hsu' is averaging 17.9 points in Ivy League play (No. 2) and is shooting 45.8 percent from 3-point range
Sienna Durr ranks 11th in the Ivy League in both scoring (12.8) and rebounding (6.1).
Janiya Clemmons (1.8) and Abbey Hsu (1.6) are both top 10 in the Ivy League in steals.
Mikayla Markham (3.4), Janiya Clemmons (2.6) and Carly Rivera (2.6) all rank top 15 in the league in assists.
• Four Lions rank inside the top 16 in the Ivy League in blocks (Pratt, Davis, Kennedy, Durr).
• Columbia has shot better than its opponent in 19 of its 25 games.
• Columbia is 17-0 when holding the opponent to fewer than 70 points and 0-8 when opponent scores more.
• Columbia is 10-2 in day games and 11-3 on the weekend.
• Thirteen of Columbia's 17 wins have come when holding the opponent under 40 percent shooting.


EXTRAS FROM HARVARD-DARTMOUTH SWEEP
• Columbia earned a season sweep over Harvard for the first time in program history.
• Columbia won at Harvard for the first time since 2009.
• Columbia swept Dartmouth for the first time since 2017.
• The Lions outrebounded Dartmouth by 17, marking the seventh time this season they've gone plus-15 or better on the glass
Abbey Hsu recorded her first double-double at Dartmouth and tied a career-high of 12 rebounds.


IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT PICTURE
• Columbia has clinched its spot at the Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament presented by TIAA. The Lions punched their ticket on Saturday then they walked away from Dartmouth with a 62-50 victory, winning their sixth straight Ivy League game. This is the first time Columbia has made the four-team tournament, which was first held in 2017.


RECORD SEASON
• Columbia enters the final weekend of the regular season with a record of 17-8 and an 8-4 mark in the Ivy League. Columbia's 17 wins and eight Ivy wins are its second-most since becoming a Div. I program in 1986-87 - the 2009-10 team holds the record by going 18-10 with a 9-5 mark in the league. The 2009-10 Lions were the only other team to post a winning season. Along the way, Columbia has won a program-best six consecutive Ivy League games, including three straight weekend sweeps. Prior to this season, the last time the Lions swept an Ivy League weekend was in 2011. Columbia's longest Ivy League winning streak prior to this season was four games, which occurred in 2008.
 

IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
• The Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament will be held Friday-Saturday, March 13-14 at Lavietes Pavilion in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The semifinals will be contested on Friday beginning with the No. 1 seed versus the No. 4 seed at 4:30 p.m. Princeton has already locked up the No. 1 seed. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds will play each other that night at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be available on ESPN+. The championship game is Saturday at 5 p.m. on ESPNews. SCOUTING PRINCETON
• Princeton (24-1, 12-0 Ivy) comes into the weekend ranked No. 21 in the AP Poll and No. 17 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll. The Tigers are on a 20-game winning streak that began Nov. 24 with a 52-40 win over Monmouth. Their only loss came at Iowa, which is currently ranked No. 19 by the AP, 77-75 in overtime. Princeton leads the Ivy League in 10 statistical categories, which includes scoring offense (71.1), scoring defense (47.7), scoring margin (23.4), field goal defense (.335), 3-point defense (.259), rebound margin (+9.9), blocks (5.6), steals (10.7), turnover margin (+6.48) and assist/turnover ratio (1.27). Their scoring defense ranks No. 1 nationally. Senior Bella Alarie leads the team in scoring (18.0) and rebounding (8.5). Junior Carlie Littlefield also averages double figures scoring (13.4) and has a team-high 77 assists.


SCOUTING PENN
• Penn (18-7, 8-4 Ivy) bounced back from back-to-back Ivy League losses against Princeton and Yale to salvage a 14-point win over Brown on Saturday. The Quakers boast the Ivy League's No. 2 scoring defense (55.1) and are also ranked second in scoring margin (+12.4), field goal defense (.343), blocks (4.6), turnover margin (+4.20) and assist/turnover ratio (1.24), Penn leads the league in fewest turnovers per game (12.0). Offensively, they are led by first-year Kayla Padilla who averages 17.7 points per game and is shooting 40.7 percent from 3-point range. Eleah Parker (12.0) is second on the team in scoring and leads the team in rebounding (7.9).
 
 
WINNING SEASON
• With its wins at Brown and Yale last weekend, Columbia locked up its first winning season since going 18-10 in 2009-10. In fact, the 2009-10 team was the only team in Columbia's Div. I history to post a winning season - the program went Div. I and officially joined the Ivy League in 1986-87. Columbia's six Ivy League wins to this point are its most since going 6-8 in 2010-11. The 2009-10 team was the only one to finish the season with a winning record in Ivy League play (9-5).
