Sophomore Kali Hatcher (TJ) and first-year Anna Jordahl-Henry (HJ) each won titles in the field for Columbia Track & Field.
BOSTON – First-year Jahi Hernandez twice broke his own school record in the 200-Meter Dash, while sophomore Kali Hatcher (TJ) and first-year Anna Jordahl-Henry (HJ) each won titles in the field as Columbia Track & Field had a successful weekend at the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center from Mar. 6-8.
Hernandez broke his 200m school record in the preliminary race (Mar. 7), before clocking 21.58 in the finals to surpass his own record on Sunday, Mar. 8. On the field, Hatcher leaped an indoor personal record mark of 13.08m to take the title in the triple jump and Jordahl-Henry won her second straight high jump event, clearing 1.73m to win the event as Columbia collected six top 10 finishes over the weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN'S EVENTS): Hernandez entered the 200m holding the school record of 21.61, which he set on Feb. 15 at the BU Valentine Invite, and he quickly surpassed that time, finishing third in the preliminaries with a time of 21.60q. In the finals, Hernandez shot off the blocks and flew around the track to again break his own record, finishing sixth with a time of 21.58.
In the 800-Meter Run, junior Jackson Storey, who finished second in the 800m at the Ivy League Indoor Heps (Mar. 1), ran the fourth fastest time in Columbia history in the prelims, finishing first to qualify for the finals with a time of 1:49.04Q. In the finals, Storey ran another solid time, clocking a fourth-place time of 1:50.66 to give Columbia another strong finish on the track.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN'S EVENTS): Having only been surpassed by NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championship bound, Zion Lewis (Brown), for first place at the Ivy League Indoor Heps (Mar. 1), Hatcher came out looking to finish at the top of the podium and on her third attempt she launched 13.08m to post an indoor PR and take first in the triple jump. For Hatcher, that is her second straight IC4A/ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships title in the triple jump, having cleared 12.84m on Mar. 3, 2019 at the previous year's competition.
Coming off an Ivy League Indoor Championship in the high jump, Jordahl-Henry added to her rapidly filling trophy case, clearing 1.73m. She cleared the mark on her first try at that height, and because Jada Harris of UMass Amherst needed two attempts at clearing 1.73m, Jordahl-Henry won the tiebreaker to take her second straight high jump title.
